Loaf & Levain
Privacy policy.
This is the privacy policy for loafandlevain.com, a free sourdough schedule calculator and resource for home bakers operated by Loaf & Levain ("we", "us", "our"). Last updated: 2026-10-24.
Plain-English summary
We don't sell your data. We don't track you across the internet. We collect the minimum needed to run a website (basic analytics) and an email list (your email if you choose to subscribe). You can leave any time, take your data with you, or ask us to delete it.
What we collect
If you visit the site:
- Your IP address (logged briefly by Cloudflare for abuse prevention; deleted after 24 hours)
- Your browser type and screen size (so the site renders correctly)
- Anonymous page-view counts (so we know which articles get read), measured with Umami Analytics, which sets no cookies and stores no personal data
- Anonymous click events, such as which kind of equipment tip was clicked, the page language and the room temperature you entered, rounded to a whole degree Celsius (also Umami, no personal data)
- When our calculator is embedded on another website (the widget at /embed/), anonymous counts of its use, including the domain of the page it is embedded on (also Umami, which does not store IP addresses). Inside the widget, your inputs are saved in your browser for that site only; we receive only anonymous usage events, such as which kind of plan was chosen.
If you subscribe to our newsletter:
- Your email address and the consent you gave on the form (stored in MailerLite — see MailerLite's privacy policy)
- We use double opt-in: after you sign up, MailerLite sends a confirmation email, and you only receive the cheat sheet and newsletter once you click the link in it
- Purpose: the cheat sheet, a 5-email welcome series over two weeks that includes offers for the Pro guide, then occasional bake tips and offers. Legal basis: your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing.
- Whether you opened or clicked our emails (used to improve our content; you can opt out by unsubscribing)
If you buy our Pro PDF:
- Your name, email, and billing details — handled by the shop you buy from: Gumroad (see Gumroad's privacy policy) or Etsy (see Etsy's privacy policy); we never see your full payment card
- Your purchase record (so we can send you free updates to this edition)
- Sales statistics: we read our sales records from Gumroad's API to count sales per month, product and referring website. The records are processed only in memory; we store only the totals, never names or email addresses. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding which channels work (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
If you click an Amazon link (the reading list, the equipment tip in the calculator, the paperback, or links in our guides):
- As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Only links to amazon.com carry our affiliate tag; links to other Amazon stores carry none and earn us nothing
- Amazon receives information about your visit to their site, under the privacy notice of the Amazon store you visit (for example amazon.com's privacy notice)
- We earn a small commission if you purchase through our link, at no extra cost to you
If you save your bake plan locally, we use your browser's localStorage. That data stays on your device and never leaves it. Clear your browser cache and it's gone.
What we don't do
- We don't sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone
- We don't show ads, and we don't use advertising trackers or advertising cookies
- We don't profile you or build behavioural models about you
- We don't send unsolicited marketing email; you only get our newsletter if you sign up for it
Cookies and similar technologies
We don't set cookies, so there is no cookie banner:
- Your bake plan and settings (schedule, unit preference, live-bake progress) are saved in your browser's localStorage. They stay on your device and are never sent to us.
- Analytics — Umami Analytics counts visits without cookies and without storing IP addresses or any other personal data.
- No advertising cookies. The site shows no ads.
- Sites we link to — Amazon, Gumroad, Etsy and MailerLite's confirmation page set their own cookies once you visit them, under their own policies.
